AUTUMN HUES + ANTIQUE + MODERN
INTERIOR DESIGN BY ANA DONOHUE
Spring, summer, fall, & winter. The circle of life. The seasons of style. Yes, styles also have seasons. Styles begin, thrive, end, and begin again… and again. In the interior design cycle, antiques are always there in some way, even in some of the most contemporary settings. That’s because classics can stand the test of time and the changing seasons of style.
So, where do antiques fit into today’s interior design phase?
Appraisal guru Lark Mason,
founder of iGavel Auctions
and a regular on the hit PBS series “Antiques Roadshow”
says the key factor for selecting antiques will be quality over quantity.
CLASSIC ANTIQUES AT MONTGOMERY ANTIQUES & INTERIORS
Earlier this year Mason predicted “Antique wooden furniture was the victim of changing tastes in the last couple of decades, but it’s likely people will rekindle their love soon. Only those pieces in tip-top shape and the best quality will be in demand. Buyers will always be more interested in pieces that are the best over those that are not.”
“Traditional ‘antiques’ … are holding their own and being recognized by the astute as a good value.” He goes on to say that there is a range of merchandise for both the “starter home” set as well as those who have more to spend. Great quality merchandise abounds especially from the recently past 20th century in every category, from furniture to glass.
“Blurring the lines between old and new, formerly stuffy shops now regularly mix and match modern and earlier material for a fresh, livable environment.”
We are all about the mix-and-match at Montgomery Antiques and Interiors. Our goal is to provide merchandise that blends function with beauty for our customers. Furnishings, accents, and art that weathers any style season. Whether you’re just starting out or well into another phase of home styling, will be happy to help you select something that’s just right.
